Oral Health and Hygiene Advice

The Importance of Oral Health and Hygiene to Prevent Teeth and Gum Problems

Taking care of your teeth and gums properly is something a dentist can advise on. Your dentist will advise you on common problems that can affect your mouth, which you would not have previously considered.

With the correct oral health and hygiene advice you can prevent the following problems occurring:
  • Bad breath
  • Bleeding gums
  • Gum disease
  • Dental abscesses
  • Teeth grinding
  • Toothache
  • Oral cancer
  • Build up of tartar

Dental Care for your Child

It is important for children to attend a dentist on a regular basis from a very young age. Taking children to a dentist from a young age is a good way to help prevent problems such as tooth decay and build up of tartar. This can also help children get accustomed to the dental environment, hopefully alleviating any fears or concerns they may have for future visits.

Oral Cancer Screening

As part of your regular dental assessments your dentist will perform an Oral Cancer Screening. This is an examination performed by a dentist to look for signs of cancer or precancerous conditions in your mouth. The goal of oral cancer screening is to identify mouth cancer early, when the prognosis for treatment may be better.

Cancer can occur in any part of the mouth including the tongue, lips, throat, salivary glands, pharynx, larynx, sinus, and other sites located in the head and neck area.
